Gestational diabetes is a condition in which a pregnant woman suffers from higher then normal blood glucose levels. Medical science does not know the exact cause of this form of diabetes but many think it is linked to the stress of pregnancy on the woman’s body. For the majority of women there are no noticeable symptoms of gestational diabetes and they are unaware that they have this condition until they are tested.Symptoms of gestational diabetes:

Increased urination

Some women are at greater risk for developing gestational diabetes. Any pregnant woman can develop it. Review the following factors that can increase your risk of developing gestational diabetes during pregnancy:

Age: Women older than age 25 are at a higher risk

Family or personal history: If you have a close family member such as a parent or sibling who has type 2 diabetes you are at higher risk. If you had gestational diabetes in your previous pregnancy, you are at a higher risk for subsequent pregnancies.

It is often quite hard to detect the disease because the body is undergoing dramatic changes all the time, many of which a being experienced for the first time. A pregnant woman will be in contact with her doctor frequently during the pregnancy so it is a good idea to mention any unusual changes in the body. Generally the condition will affect women in the latter stages of pregnancy (around 24-28 weeks). A classic symptom of gestational diabetes is excessive thirst or polydipsia. This could be accompanied by frequent urination (polyuria).

Signs Of Gestational Diabetes

The most common signs associated with gestational diabetes are extreme hunger and thirst .

Although a growling stomach is certainly no stranger to a pregnant woman, any extreme feelings may be signs of a problem.

Associated with the increased liquid intake is an increased urinary output. Again, this is a common complaint for pregnant women, but any extreme urination should be noted.

Other symptoms include blurred vision and excess weight gain.

One of the most common signs of diabetes would be the urge to urinate frequently. Somehow it is very easy to spot this kind of sign. You just need to ask yourself, “Am I visiting the bathroom to urinate more frequently?” If the answer is yes, then you must be in the look out for some other symptoms of having diabetes. Frequent urination is caused due to increased levels of glucose in your blood. In short, having lesser glucose in the blood would likely lead to let your bladder feel full and thus keeps you having the urge to urinate often.

Controlling This Condition:

It usually disappears after pregnancy. However, controlling gestational diabetes is extremely important during pregnancy. Otherwise, it can lead to severe complications in the fetus such as congenital defects, abnormal physiological and neurological developmental patterns, and conditions such as macrosomia, jaundice, hypoglycemia and injuries during birth time.

In the mother, this condition causes formation of overweight baby. Due to this, delivery becomes extremely traumatic. In women with this condition, there is an increased risk of preeclampsia characterized by hypertension and presence of excess protein in the urine. Also, women tend to develop type 2 diabetes after a couple of years.

There are a lot of recipes for diabetics and they can be considered by anybody as long as the ingredients necessary are not rare at all, but they can be found in shops or even in your vegetable garden. We have four recipes for diabetics, which you will really enjoy.
Pasta with tomato sauce

Ingredients for 4 dishes:

4 tomatoes, peeled and cut cube shape

½ mug fresh basil

3 spoons red onion, minced

Boil the pasta for 10 – 12 minutes, according to the instructions on the package and drain them well.

You obtain 4 dishes of pasta and you can put them in heated plates. You can pour tomato sauce on each dish of pasta and you can decorate them with a fresh basil leaf.

You can choose from simple recipes, requiring few ingredients, or take it to the next level by trying recipes with more ingredients. I guarantee that all will be delicious, because I’ve tested all of them to make sure that you will enjoy them and can cook them yourself.

A big part of keeping your blood sugar steady is eating regularly. Typically, the longest break without food during a day comes at night.

While your body rests and revitalizes itself, your blood glucose level takes a nosedive. Start your day the right way with a healthy balanced breakfast each and every day.

Teriyaki Beef Spirals

1 cup spinach
¼ cup green onions, chopped and low-sodium teriyaki sauce
½ cup chopped water chestnuts

Take the spinach stems out and layering the leaves on each other, cut them diagonally into thin strips. Mix the strips, onions, water chestnuts and teriyaki sauce. Trim the fat from the meat and make shallow 1-inch cuts on each piece.

Place the steaks in between 2 pieces of plastic wrap and pound with a light hand so as to make small rectangles of them. After taking them out of the wrap, coat the meat with seasoning. Then spread the spinach mixture as well. Roll each meat piece and secure them with toothpicks. Slice in between the toothpicks to get 1″ thin slices. Thread these slices into metal skewers, brush them with teriyaki sauce and grill till done.

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Lightly coat a small shallow baking dish with cooking spray.

Place the turkey in a medium bowl. Add the oats, onion, garlic, mustard, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, egg substitute, thyme, marjoram and pepper. Mix well. Wet your hands before forming the mixture into 2 loaves of equal size.

Place the loaves in the prepared baking dish. Top each loaf with half a bay leaf. Lightly coat the loaves with cooking spray and bake for 20-25 minutes. Check after 15 minutes. Lower heat to 400 degrees if athe top is browning too quickly. Be sure to remove bay leaf halves before eating.

How A Low-Carb Diet

A low-carb diet is superior for one simple reason: if done according to the guidelines (in this case I am referring to the guidelines in this book), people don’t get fat, or don’t stay fat, even as they reach the years of the supposedly inevitable “middle-age spread.” In addition, all of the indicators for disease that are supposedly controlled by a low-fat diet, such as triglycerides and LDL (or “bad”) cholesterol, descend to normal or low-normal ranges in most people.
What Is A Low Carb Diet?

People diet for two primary reasons, to lose weight, or to improve health–or both. If you are a healthy adult who is not overweight and who has no family members who are obese, the food pyramid recommendations of the USDA will work fine, as long as you remember that the carbohydrates that are recommended are those contained in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables.

Low Carb Diet Helps Diabetics

The accumulating evidence regarding the role of low-carbohydrate diets in helping diabetics manage their condition has apparently reached critical mass –- though the American Diabetes Association (ADA) admits this, it still will not change its dietary recommendations.

The Low-Carb Diabetes Plan

After hearing for years that a high-carb, low-fat diet is the only real road to weight loss, you might be wondering how a low-carb diabetes diet can help you finally drop the pounds and help you get control of your blood sugar. Let us explain.

Despite the growing incidence of type 1 and 2 diabetes and the accelerating cost of the resources needed to monitor and treat these patients, we are obviously not succeeding in reducing either the number of people affected or the severity of the complications of these conditions.

Do Low-Carb Diets Help Diabetes?

While agreeing that carbohydrate restriction helps people with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar, ADA spokesman Nathaniel G. Clark, MD, tells WebMD that the ADA does not recommend very low-carb diets because patients find them too restrictive.

A revolutionary new low-carb diet for diabetics by the doctor who pioneered a successful new approach to the disease–with 100 original mouth watering recipes. For diabetics, diet is more than a lifestyle choice–it*s the key to controlling the course of their disease. Many diabetics struggle their entire lives to maintain a healthy weight, but the guidelines given to them by the American Diabetes Association have proven unhelpful in regulating blood sugar–the critical component in keeping diabetes in check.lo

A new study shows that a synthetic antioxidant can delay and prevent the onset of autoimmune diabetes in mice. The antioxidant protected insulin-producing beta cells from lethal oxygen radicals generated in diabetes. To the researchers’ surprise, the antioxidant also blocked the ability of the immune system to recognize beta cells, the target of the autoimmune attackin diabetes. The findings, published by researchers at National Jewish Medical and Research Center and the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in the February issue of Diabetes, suggest that antioxidants may be useful against diabetes as well as other autoimmune diseases and organ-transplant rejections.

Antioxidant Prevents Autoimmune Diabetes in Mice

A new study shows that a synthetic antioxidant can delay and prevent the onset of autoimmune diabetes in mice. The antioxidant protected insulin-producing beta cells from lethal oxygen radicals generated in diabetes. To the researchers’ surprise, the antioxidant also blocked the ability of the immune system to recognize beta cells, the target of the autoimmune attack in diabetes.

Antioxidant Treatment in Diabetes

The many studies on oxidative stress, antioxidant treatment, and diabetic complications have shown that oxidative stress is increased and may accelerate the development of complications through the metabolism of excessive glucose and free fatty acids in diabetic and insulin-resistant states. However, the contribution of oxidative stress to diabetic complications may be tissue-specific, especially for microvascular disease that occurs only in diabetic patients but not in individuals with insulin resistance without diabetes, even though both groups suffer from oxidative stress.

Antioxidant protection

As a defense against oxidative damage, the body normally maintains a variety of mechanisms to prevent such damage while allowing the use of oxygen for normal functions. Such “antioxidant protection” derives from sources both inside the body (endogenous) and outside the body (exogenous). Endogenous antioxidants include molecules and enzymes that neutralize free radicals and other reactive oxygen species, as well as metal-binding proteins that sequester iron and copper atoms (which can promote certain oxidative reactions if free).

Diabetes Insipidus, often shortened to DI, is a rare form of diabetes that is not related to diabetes mellitus, but does share its signs and symptoms. This Diabetes.co.uk guide shows what diabetes insipidus is, how it affects the body, the different forms of diabetes insipidus, and how it is diagnosed.

Signs And Symptoms Of Diabetes Insipidus

Excessive urination and extreme thirst (especially for cold water and sometimes ice or ice water) are typical for DI. Symptoms of diabetes insipidus are quite similar to those of untreated diabetes mellitus, with the distinction that the urine is not sweet as it does not contain glucose and there is no hyperglycemia (elevated blood glucose).

Depending on the severity of the condition, urine output can range from 2.5 liters per day if you have mild diabetes insipidus to 15 liters per day if the condition is severe and if you’re taking in a lot of fluids. In comparison, the average urine output for a healthy adult is in the range of 1.5 to 2.5 liters a day.

Causes Of Diabetes Insipidus

Diabetes insipidus (DI) is an uncommon condition that occurs when the kidneys are unable to conserve water as they perform their function of filtering blood. The amount of water conserved is controlled by antidiuretic hormone (ADH), also called vasopressin.

ADH is a hormone produced in a region of the brain called the hypothalamus.

Central diabetes insipidus may be caused by insufficient production of antidiuretic hormone by the hypothalamus. Alternatively, the disorder may be caused by failure of the pituitary gland to release antidiuretic hormone into the bloodstream.

Treatment Of Diabetes Insipidus

Medical Care

In an emergency, most patients with diabetes insipidus (DI) can drink enough fluid to replace their urine losses. Replace losses with dextrose and water or IV fluid hyposmolar to the patient’s serum. Avoid hyperglycemia, volume overload, and a correction of hypernatremia that is too rapid. A good rule of thumb is to reduce serum sodium by 0.5 mmol/L/h. Water deficit may be calculated based on the assumption that body water is approximately 60% of body weight in kilograms.

If your diabetes insipidus is caused by kidneys that don’t work well with ADH, then DDAVP won’t help. Other medicines, like hydrochlorothiazide (a “water” pill), may help. Water pills help your body balance salt and water.

Diabetes Food And Nutrition

It would be nice if diabetes was more like a food allergy and you could simply avoid one type of food, take your meds, and you’d be all set. Instead, diabetes means a 24-hour-a-day balancing act between blood sugar levels and an entire category of foods (carbohydrates).

Not surprisingly, one of the first questions newly diagnosed patients ask is: “What is this diabetic diet I have to follow?” Fortunately, they quickly find out that eating with diabetes is not a life sentence to some rigid, deprivation-oriented menu plan.

Diabetes Healthy Eating Plan

If you’re already eating good-for-you foods, you may not need to make many changes to keep your blood sugar (glucose) under control. It may simply be a matter of adjusting your portion sizes. One serving in a group is called an “exchange.” An exchange has about the same amount of carbohydrates, protein, or fat and calories — and the same effect on your blood sugar — as a serving of every other food in the same group. So you can exchange.

Soluble fibers are found mainly in fruits, vegetables and some seeds, and are especially good for people with diabetes because they help to slow down or reduce the absorption of glucose from the intestines. Legumes, such as cooked kidney beans, are among the highest soluble fiber foods. Reaching and maintaining a healthy weight is important for everyone with diabetes. Weight control is extremely important in treating type 2 diabetes because extra body fat makes it difficult for people with type 2 diabetes to make and use their own insulin.

Special Meal Plan For The Diabetes

There isn’t one “diabetes diet.” Your doctor will probably suggest that you work with a registered dietitian to design a meal plan. A meal plan is a guide that tells you what kinds of food you can choose at meals and snack time and how much to have.Butter, margarine, lard and oils add fat to food. Fat is also in many dairy and meat products. Try to avoid fried foods, mayonnaise-based dishes (unless they are made with fat-free mayo), egg yolks, bacon and high-fat dairy products.

Effect Of cholesterol In A Diabetes Diet

Diabetics are at an increased risk for heart disease as compared to the general population, so it’s important to control cholesterol levels. Since the body can manufacture all the cholesterol it needs, a healthy diabetes diet includes foods low in cholesterol—specifically LDL levels, which have been identified as the main cholesterol-induced risk factor.

Diabetes Mean

Diabetes Mean

Both diabetes type 1 and type 2 share one central feature: elevated blood sugar ( glucose) levels due to absolute or relative insufficiencies of insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas. Insulin is a key regulator of the body’s metabolism.
Diet Controlled Diabetes

Diet controlled diabetes (also known as non – insulin dependent diabetes) occurs when you are unable to produce sufficient insulin, a hormone produced in the pancreas, which controls the amount of sugar in the blood, a lack of this hormone being the cause of diabetes.

How Diet Control Diabetes

This Is The Simple Way To Control on diabetes. After fasting all night your body needs fuel but it doesn’t need sugars. A balanced diet rich in protein should be a part of every diabetics daily routine. Protein isn’t quickly converted into sugars like carbohydrates are.

Is Diet Work Effectivelly On It?

Diet Can Control On diabetes. One of the main actions of insulin is to help regulate blood sugar (or to be precise, blood glucose) levels. It achieves this in part by promoting uptake of sugar by cells e.g. muscle cells. Insufficient action of insulin leads to a reduction in sugar uptake and therefore causes an abnormal rise in blood sugar. The result: the symptoms of diabetes.

Long Tie Benefit To Control On it

We are learning more about diabetes all the time, and it is becoming clear the harder you work to control your diabetes when it is diagnosed the more benefit you will get in the long term. Complications from diabetes will be prevented or delayed.

How Deit Effects On Health

Diet Also Effects On Your Health.People with diabetes can live a normal healthy life. However, poorly controlled diabetes can lead to complications such as heart disease, kidney disease, blindness and nerve problems leading to amputation.

Meal Planning Control On Your Diabetes

Your Meal Planning Control On Your Diet.If you’re already eating good-for-you foods, you may not need to make many changes to keep your blood sugar (glucose) under control. It may simply be a matter of adjusting your portion sizes. If you tend to eat at irregular times, overeat or make poor food choices, ask your doctor for a referral to a registered dietitian. He or she can offer specific tips to help you change your eating habits.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a set of related diseases in which the body cannot regulate the amount of sugar (specifically, glucose) in the blood.Glucose in the blood gives you energy to perform daily activities, walk briskly, run for a bus, ride your bike, take an aerobic exercise class, and perform your day-to-day chores.
Stress And Antioxidant

The many studies on oxidative stress, antioxidant treatment, and diabetic complications have shown that oxidative stress is increased and may accelerate the development of complications through the metabolism of excessive glucose and free fatty acids in diabetic and insulin-resistant states. However, the contribution of oxidative stress to diabetic complications.

Diabetes-Induced Embryonic Malformation

Hyperglycemia-induced embryonic malformations may be due to an increase in radical formation and depletion of intracellular glutathione (GSH) in embryonic tissues. In the past, we have investigated the role of the glutathione-dependent antioxidant system and GSH on diabetes-related embryonic malformations.

Beneficial Effects Of Antioxidants

Oxidative stress is produced under diabetic conditions and possibly causes various forms of tissue damage in patients with diabetes. The aim of this study was to examine the involvement of oxidative stress in the progression of pancreatic beta-cell dysfunction in type 2 diabetes and to evaluate the potential usefulness of antioxidants in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. We used diabetic C57BL/KsJ-db/db mice, in whom antioxidant treatment (N-acetyl-L-cysteine [NAC], vitamins C plus E, or both) was started at 6 weeks of age; its effects were evaluated at 10 and 16 weeks of age.

Antioxidants, Diabetes And Endothelial

While a damaged endothelium is recognised to be a key accessory to diabetic macroangiopathy, awareness is developing that impairments concerning endothelium- and nitric oxide (NO)-dependent microvascular function, may contribute to several other corollaries of diabetes, such as hypertension.

Effects Of Antioxidants In Diabetes

Numerous reports have demonstrated that oxidative stress induced by diabetes plays an important role in the development and progression of diabetic vascular complications including nephropathy. Indeed, there is emerging evidence that the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is a direct consequence of hyperglycemia. Biomarkers for oxidative damage to DNA, lipids, and proteins are also supporting the concept of increased oxidative stress in diabetes and diabetic nephropathy.

Lipoic acid (LA) is a disulfide compound that is produced in small quantities in cells, and functions naturally as a co-enzyme in the pyruvate dehydrogenase and a-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase mitochondrial enzyme complexes. In pharmacological doses, LA is a multifunctional antioxidant. LA has been used in Germany for over 30 years for the treatment of diabetes-induced neuropathy.

In the search for a cure for diabetes, a recent development has stunned even the experts involved. Scientists at a Toronto medical center claim that they have proof the the nerve system is responsible for triggering diabetes, a fact which may well lead to the possibility of a cure for the diabetes, an illness which causes problems for many millions in the affluent world.
Diabetes Breakthrough

In a discovery that has stunned even those behind it, scientists at a Toronto hospital say they have proof the body’s nervous system helps trigger diabetes, opening the door to a potential near-cure of the disease that affects millions of Canadians.

Diabetics Cured In Stem-Cell Treatment

Diabetics using stem-cell therapy have been able to stop taking insulin injections for the first time, after their bodies started to produce the hormone naturally again. In a breakthrough trial, 15 young patients with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes were given drugs to suppress their immune systems followed by transfusions of stem cells drawn from their own blood.

The Cause Of Diabetes

In order to understand a potential cure for diabetes, it is necessary to look briefly at the cause. In insulin-dependent diabetes, the diabetic’s body fails to make insulin, a hormone essential to the metabolism of glucose. Glucose enters the blood stream from the food that we eat and, in the presence of insulin, is taken up and “burned” by cells that require this essential fuel.

Diabetes Cure After Terminally

A human clinical trial with hopes of finding a cure for type 1 diabetes is to start at a leading American research hospital using BCG, universally given for many years in Britain to prevent tuberculosis.

Obesity Operation May Cure Diabetes

Patients who had surgery to reduce the size of their stomachs were five times more likely to see their diabetes disappear over the next two years than were patients who had standard diabetes care, according to Australian researchers.

The Cure For Diabetes

What if the American Heart Association endorsed the trans-fat diet? Problem, right? Look at what the American Diabetes Association is spoon-feeding people with diabetes: sugar. Not to worry: We’ve got the solution right here.
